On Sat., March 22 the heart of SPC beat with a powerful rhythm of compassion and action. Fifty-three volunteers came together to participate in the church’s annual Rise Against Hunger Experience, assembling packets containing six servings each for a total of 10,540 nutritious meals destined for those facing hunger in Haiti and the Philippines.
Rise Against Hunger’s meal packing program is a simple yet profound way to make a tangible difference in the lives of individuals and communities struggling with food insecurity. Volunteers assemble bags filled with a carefully formulated blend of rice, soy, dehydrated vegetables, and essential vitamins and minerals. These meals are designed to provide crucial caloric intake and address common micronutrient deficiencies, offering a lifeline to those who need it most.
“It was truly inspiring to see the dedication and enthusiasm of our volunteers today,” said SPC Mission volunteer and coordinator of the project Jane Henderson. “Knowing that these meals will provide nourishment and hope for people thousands of miles away is incredibly rewarding. This is the fourth year SPC has participated, packaging a total of 30,20 meals. Last year our packaged meals were sent to South Africa,” she said.
The Rise Against Hunger Experience goes beyond simply providing meals. It’s about empowering communities and fostering sustainable solutions to hunger. In addition to meal packing, Rise Against Hunger supports sustainable agriculture and income-generating projects, working towards long-term food security.
Rise Against Hunger’s mission is to grow a global movement to end hunger by empowering communities, nourishing lives, and responding to emergencies.
