Members and friends of Southport Presbyterian Church (SPC) celebrated the church’s 125th Anniversary May 20-21. Activities included a Hymn Festival coordinated by SPC Music Director Laurie Russ, with songs accompanied by the SPC Choir and a performance by “The Brunswick Bellas” of Wilmington; an old-fashioned church picnic; and a story board and slide show highlighting the many historic events in the life of the church. Sunday’s worship service was filled with festive music, including hymns played by SPC bagpiper Dirk Spit, and a sermon titled “Roots and Branches” by former SPC Pastor Dr. Ann B. Jhanes. A special 125th Anniversary Quilt, designed and made by SPC members, was debuted in the church narthex.
