Telling Secrets, a short memoir by Frederick Buechner will be the focus of the book for the adult Forum Class starting Sun., Jan. 8 through Jan. 29, 9:30 a.m. in the Session Room. With eloquence, candor, and simplicity, this celebrated author tells the story of his father’s alcohol abuse and suicide and traces the influence of this secret on his life as a son, father, husband, minister, and writer. An exceptional man of faith, Buechner shares the tragedies and delights of his life, and finding God in all of it. He encourages us to do the same.
“Listen to your life. See it for the fathomless mystery that it is. In the boredom and the pain of it, no less than the excitement and the gladness: touch, taste, smell your way to the holy and hidden heart of it, because in the last analysis, all moments are key moments, and life itself is grace,” says Buechner.
The class will be discussion–based, focusing on events and insights from our lives and sharing only as much as one is comfortable doing. Books may be purchased on your own in advance or at the first class, the latter at a cost of $8.00. Please let class leader Candace Bland know of your interest in participating in advance of the first class so she can be sure to have enough written handouts for all.
